Customer Reviews

Excellent Valve. Works Perfectly.I bought this to replace the typical rising-stem, gate-valve at my hose riser, outside my house. These are so much easier and quicker to use. Unable to find them locally so I chose Amazon. It is a quality product and works flawlessly. If there could be a complaint, it would be that the handle is galvanized steel rather than stainless, so it will eventually rust. But not an issue as it would likely take 30 or 40 years before the rust began to hinder the handle's performance. Will buy again.5Careful of the Model NumberPay attention to the model number. Amazon sent me an MC71QT first time I ordered. Not close to the same; the C means compact with a very small (1/4") ball valve. This bibb (M71QT) has a full flow 3/4" ball valve that necks down to the MGHT. That is what I ordered and wanted. Has a nice heavy zinc dipped handle. This version will give you much more flow.5I don't expect long service from this valve. This valve is full opening, so it flows a lot of water with just a quarter of a turn. And it throttles well. I noticed a problem when I replaced my current leaking valve with this one. The leaking valve was the exact same manufacturer and model as this new one. It had only lasted a few years. Upon inspection the ball surface was corroded - hence the leaking. I have other DynaQuip ball valves that have lasted a lot longer. I'm probably being generous giving it three stars, but I really like the way it operates.3This valve is pretty slick. I wish the amount of clearance between ...This valve is pretty slick. I wish the amount of clearance between the wrench fitting and the mating pipe was just a little bit greater. The inch and 1/8 wrench was too thick. My crescent wrench that I used only was able to threaded end so far and then it got too thick. I ended up using a channel lock it all turned out okay. Ball valve handled Garden bibs are so much nicer then the traditional dial opener.4You might want to consider alternativesThere is no way to get a wrench on the hex to install or remove this valve. The hex is rough cast with rounded corners and too narrow for any wrench that is capable of properly tightening the valve. I used a pipe wrench on the body and didn't tighten it as much as I would have liked hoping that the Loctite pipe sealer will keep it from ever leaking. In retrospect, I would buy the female threaded valve and use a short nipple. A pipe wrench on the body could permanently damage this as the brass is no thicker than absolutely necessary. It does have a large hole through the ball and should flow without restriction.3easily break in the winterI love these valves but I do have problems with them breaking in the winter. They all break in the same place close to the ball inside the valve. I try to drain them out for the winter but they seem to crack anyway. Some do not leak water until they are being turned on and the water shoots out the crack. I have had more trouble with these than all the others COMBINED. But i do love the leaver handle.2Great valve, wouldn't use outside.I use one of these for a water faucet outside. I love it because it is 1/4 turn to wide open. I have a shutoff valve to cut the water off during the winter. The only bad part is if I forget to open and close this faucet after shutting the water off, the water that remains in the ball valve will freeze and put a crack in the brass side. It is my fault, not the fault of the valve. That is why I would not recommend these for outside.5Value cracks when the temperature drops below 32 degrees FahrenheitThis looks like a well made valve but when the temperature drops below 32 degrees the valve body splits. This happened to me twice. I thought the first one I purchased was a defect, but then the second one I purchased split the same way, in the same spot. Unfortunately this value could not stand up to the cold weather. And this was with the water feed turned off for the winter. To extend the life of this valve, this would need to be remove every winter. Unfortunately this would not feasible. The value should be installed once and last at least 10 years. Its a shame because this functioned great during the spring and summer months.1Split open during freezeI bought 2 of these for an exterior rain water retention tank in a northern clime. During a winter freeze one valve, which was kept closed, split open at the central chamber. No problem with the other valve which was kept open. The only reference to temperature in the specs for this product at the American Valve web site said 180 degrees. So I thought the brass would have been able to withstand an upper mid-west winter. I was wrong.1Not freeze resistant Hard to install in a standard application or tight spaces. Not freeze resistant at all. One freeze took out 5 of 9 of these I had installed on rain barrels. I'm glad we hadn't used these in an application under pressure. They all broke in the same place on the side with the numbers casted in them. I cant help to wonder if the metal is just that soft given none of my outside water spigots I got from lowes have this problem uncovered. 3Best rain barrel flow!Valve is full 3/4 inner diameter to get best flow better than any others on market.5
