    a pen for those who think before they writeThis pen is a great combination of smooth writing and great feel in hand. I initially found the Caran D'ache pen in a stationary store while looking to replace a cheap broad tipped ball point pen that I loved. While most people look for fine tip writing pens, I love wide writing ones. They are hard to find. The Caran D'ache pen wrote wonderfully smooth and broadly. I used it for years and one day it was gone. I bought several on Amazon so I would have one wherever I went. They are expensive as everyday ballpoint pens go, and will not get the attention of a Cross, Mt Blanc or Waterman. However, they are solid metal, durable pens with a great rolling feel and a uniquely subtle click mechanism. They are a tool of expression for those who use their hand to reveal themselves. 5Beautiful green polished penBeautiful Swiss pen. The clip is strong and holds the pen well in place in my shirt pocket. Compared to the Caran d'Ache 888 Resin pen felt more smooth when writing, it had the Swissride ink cartridge. While this green metallic pen comes with Goliath medium ink cartridge. I believe the smoothness will come later in time. 3Great design, mechanically flawedI love the design, feel, easy-to-find fluorescent color, and smooth, bold writing quality of this pen. I have two of these, and both have the same problem: the click action is awful. They don't click closed properly, almost always hanging up in a partway open position--I have to look at it before putting it in my shirt pocket to make sure it's closed, and more often than not, it's not. I have developed a special click maneuver where I slide my finger sideways off the button to let it spring out properly when retracting it. Many times, when the pen is clicked open, it hangs up in an extended position that snaps back closed as soon as I put pressure on the tip to begin writing. Even the crappiest plastic click pens work way more reliably than this design--it is a real disappointment given the otherwise apparent quality of the pen. Unacceptable mechanical design, especially considering that most internal parts are metal. 3The best ballpoint I've ever used.I tend to be a gel ink person. I'm a big fan of the fluidity and lack of clumping. But this pen virtually eliminates that gap. In fact, there's just enough resistance that I prefer the writing motion of the Caran D'ache. If the ink were just a little darker, it would completely eliminate my gel pens.The build quality is unbeatable. The weight and feel are perfect. My favorite part is the fact that there is no cheap "click" when you push the button. The tip effortlessly glides out, holds it place, and glides right back with another press. It's like butta! 5Doesn t last.I work in a hospital and use my own just to jot small notes on my patient list. I like the metal body of this pen but give it one star because it has already completely run out of ink and is barely a month old. I write maybe a paragraph of text in a weeks time. I ve had plastic cheap-o bic pens that last me much longer. Regret paying $20 for this. Look elsewhere. 1What's the big deal?PROs: it s small, metal (aluminum), and the ink seems good time will tell. The green hexagonal body stands out so hopefully I won t lose it ( Hey, isn t that Biff s pen? ). I later found out it comes in other colors.CONs: what tipped me to buy it was someone s comment that it had the nicest clicking mechanism . I know nice clicking mechanisms. Aside from the cheap feel, it also sticks occasionally. Every time I use it, it feels like I m writing with a Skilcraft.The best pen I've found so far is the Pilot The Better Retractable Ballpoint Pens, Fine Point, Blue Ink, Dozen Box (30001). 2Nice pen - so so refill.Nothing wrong with it. Loved the style and color.. It just missed my expectations by a little. Too small in length for my preference, and too light even though it is metal (painted).The reason for one star off is that the refill is not as smooth as my Waterman or Sheaffer, but smoother than my Cross ballpoint pens.Most annoying thing about this pen (or rather the refill actually) is that it does not write well when held in a slanted manner like when you write in cursive - It feels scratchy because the very tip of the ball housing catches or gouges the paper when the angle is lower (closer to paper). None of the my other ball pens, even the cheap dollar ones,catch the paper. A more vertical writing angle solves this but it is not comfortable for long writing sessions.Anyway, I use it as an Every Day Carry (EDC) pen - small enough to fit in pocket for quick notes and grocery lists.And the good news is that it will take Parker refills. 4Great EDC Alternativethis pen did not disappoint but I will probably change the ink to the Easy Flow 9000 when the current one runs out...its not a bad ink, just used to something different. The pen itself is lightweight. It feels a touch heavier than a Pilot G2. The metal is very thin, but not offensive. The clip is thoughtfully designed and I had no issues putting into a blazer or my pocket. This pen is about the same size length as my Tactile Turn pens but noticeably more thin than average. The closest I can compare it to is a slightly wider Ticonderoga pencil. Again, not an offensive pen but definitely if you have large hands or prefer a larger grip section this may be too thin.. My only concern is the scratching in the bag or pocket with other pens but only time will tell. It is certainly gift-able to someone who would like a refillable pen but not something heavy or too different than their regular disposable pens. 4Great ballpointI really like the Goliath refills. They write as good as any ballpoint, but have a very large ink reservoir. I'm a fountain pen user, so I only use this for work, but it still gets plenty of use. The construction is top notch. I love that the click is very quiet and soft.- - -Update 10/6/2016I've been using this for 2 1/2 years now. It's the only pen I use at work. I still haven't replaced the ink cartridge. I bought a refill about a year in, thinking it might need it any day. That refill is still in a box and I don't know where. This pen just keeps going. 5Nice pen. Minus one star since it came in a plastic bag so not for gifting.I like this pen a lot and glad I got it. It is shorter than most pens so if you have big hands, it may not be for you. My only disappoint was that it came in a plastic bag! I've seen cheaper pens come in a box or plastic enclosure so the pen would be presentable as a gift. In a plastic bag? Nope. Was a good price and since it was sold on Amazon, got quick delivery. Good gift for yourself though. 4
