Customer Reviews

Love the pen, the ink cartridges for it not so much.I got this pen as a gift from my husband on my first job in the US and I love it. I've been heavily using it for more than 2 months and it looks as new and the color is a beautiful dark blue one. One downside, though: the Cross ink cartridges that fit this pen do not come in a variety of options, there's only 2 colors to them, blue-black and black, they're small and they can be ordered on Amazon only as an add-on or I need to pay more for them. The pen, nonetheless, is a beauty and I like it a lot 5A classic high-quality pen, that is always noticed.Update: I love this pen however the finish on this pen has began to bubble and peel on the cap and the barrel of the pen has developed and orange peel effect. I have two of these pens and this is the only one that has done this. I called Cross and they said that the finish was not covered just the mechanics of the pen. I understand that you can not warranty the finis but this pen was not even a year old and the finish was not scratched it was bubbling up and peeling off. Cross has done a poor job in this respect of addressing the issue.I had always wanted a fountain pen and I have owned cross pens my whole life. So I figured I would try their fountain pen the Centry 2.It came in a classic box with 2 black ink cartridges and a medium nib.I bought a fine nib and screw in ink converter so I could use bottled ink. I have had no problems with either the fine or medium nibs clogging. I use cross bottled ink. This pen is my daily writer and it writes excellent to say the least I would definitely buy another cross fountain pen again. And I highly recommended it to anyone. It s a high quality pen and well worth the price.4Pleasure to write with!Pros:1. Extremely smooth nib, ink delivery upon plugging the cartridge was instantaneous.2. A relatively wet writer, with no skips or hard starts3. Medium nib puts line in the vicinity of a broad nib (I like that, some might not)4. Though the body is a little thin than most pens (that's what Cross is known for), the grip section is nice and non slippery5. Lustrous Chrome Finish looks very elegantCons1. Finger print magnet, if you have a OCD for that - you will just be wiping the pen all the time.2. The cap finishes with a black tip and has a metallic dot on the top - in my pen, this is slightly raised to one side - it no way affects the performance of the pen, nor is immediately spotted, but still it is an imperfection especially when I pay $50 (Price in Cross Online store is $105)3. For the price (may be for $50 and definitely for $105), converter needs to be included. Just came with two black cartridge (as promised) Had to shell out additional $10 for the converter.4. I believe I got an old stock, the case was slightly wrinkled and damaged - but well, may be that's why you get the 50% discount4The OneI have a lot of fountain pens, including a few worth about $150. This (Cross Century II with 23 kt fine nib) is absolutely my favorite fountain pen. I m now planning to sell most of pens since this is the one that I ve been seeking. It feels great in my hand when I write and has gorgeously smooth and generous ink flow.I have switched to refilling cartridges with a syringe instead of using converters since I ve observed that the cartridges have a lot of capacity and seem to feed more reliably.5Press hard for light inkThis pen is not worth the almost $53 I paid. I bought this for a gift and planned to have the name engraved on it. I am reconsidering. I tried the pen first--thankfully--. You have to press hard to get a light stream of ink. It is not dark and distinct. If you wrote for very long your hand might become tired or cramped. I wouldn't like it for myself so maybe I shouldn't give it as a gift. I don't like to leave negative reviews but you need to know my experience. The box which would be nice enough but had tape (not factory tape) so removing it ripped off some of the box packaging making it look cheap for gift giving. The pen container did not have a groove for the pen to sit in like a lot of the nicer pen boxes--it sat on a flat surface with a ribbon across it and it could roll around. Not a good value for $53! Will probably send back.1Cheap China PenThe finish of the pen will wear when you place the cap on the end. It happened in less than 2 days of use. The ink starts to not work after a few days of use i went through 3 different cross rollerball refills and found the ink worked half the time on all of them. I tried to replace with a Pentel Energel and the end of the pen blew out. Cheapest made cross I ve ever bought.1Good writing pen, cheap material!!I really like Cross pens and when the gunmetal grey came out I was more than excited to get it. It writes just like I had expected and fits really well in my hand. It s the perfect size and weight. However, I am disappointed at the price I paid and how well it is holding up. Unfortunately the pain has already started chipping and I have only used for 2 weeks!! I haven t dropped or misused it just started chipping from sliding the lid on and off the back. Very disappointed to pay this much money and then have to use a pen that looks cheap from paint chips. I was expecting more out of a cross pen.Updating this review to one star - after I received replacement the chipping is worse on the new pen.1Beautiful, Well Balanced, Highly ReliableI ve been an avid Cross pen user for over 30 years. I have 5 different Cross pens that I use and keep a few on hand to use for gifts. The Lacquer/Rhodium Blue Century II Pen looked so great that I added it to my collection. All the Cross pens I have used are Century pens the classic Cross look. If you are used to the Century pens, please note that the Century II pens are slightly different. The Century II is about .4 oz heavier than the Century, slightly wider and almost taller. So it has a heavier feel. The Century II feels larger, bolder but it is still un-mistakenly a Cross pen.The Blue Lacquer is a deep blue and when the sunlight hits it, the pen has a bright, neon glow. The pen comes in a rather large gift box. The box measures 7.25 X 4.125 X 2.375 . The box is attractive, well designed to make a good impression. There is a nice booklet that tells the history of Cross Pens. All trim is rhodium the chrome look gives a nice contrast to the blue lacquer. The pen comes with the Cross black ink refill. Refills are available in blue or red.I like the Cross pen because of the look, feel and quality of writing. Like all Cross pens, this one comes with a lifetime warranty on the mechanical parts. I ve had two occasions over the past thirty years when I had a mechanical failure and both times the pens was repaired quickly under the terms of their warranty. This is a high-quality writing instrument. While digital has certainly replaced a lot of writing activities, I still carry a pen with me all the time. I love the look, feel and reliability of a Cross pen. I believe carrying a Cross pen conveys a favorable message about the owner.5Buyer Beware, Customer DisserviceBe very careful in reading and knowing what pen you buy. I bought the Century II Select Tip with the rollerball cartridge. It seemed that by the description it would take all Select Tip cartidges. Not so. It ONLY takes the rollerball cartridge which only comes in a medium tip. I like a fine tip and thought I could buy a replacement, even if it was a ballpoint. ALL I CAN BUY is another medium tip rollerball cartridge. This info came from a Cross customer service person. I am not at all happy and will tell everyone I meet NOT to buy Cross pens because the sales info is so confusing. I even went to the Cross site, put in the info for the pen I bought and I still got shown the cartridges that I bought and are wrong. I give this pen 2 stars because it is pretty and fits my hand well, but I am not happy!2Perfection attainedPerfection.Always a fan of Cross rollerball. Perfect cartridge in the perfect lacquer case I like this far more than Montblanc, or any other of my fine pens. Only competition is my Cross capless. So, I have both, and there are no compromises. A joy!5
