Customer Reviews

Smaller than the real sonic screwdriverI bought this for my kids to use when we were planning to visit the local Comic Con. We were able to meet David Tennant and have our photo taken with him, asking if he'd use this sonic in the photo. He did, but you can tell in the photo that this was smaller than the one he used in the show. Otherwise, it does light up and looks just like 10's sonic screwdriver. 4Sonic Screwdriver a Huge Christmas HitMy daughter is a major "Whovian," and as such, she has passed the obsession on to my three year-old grandson. I purchased this for one of his Christmas gifts, and it was a major hit. It came with batteries installed, so it could immediately be played with (as he delivered Dr. Who quotes and assumed the positions for using it straight away). One of the advantages of this "toy" is that it provides the light without the noise. 5Excelent Toy!!This was a Christmas gift for my 8 year old son who LOVES the 10th doctor. It was smaller than I expected but in the hands of my 8 year old, it was perfect. It has no sound, thank the Lord! So my son was able to play with it when ever he liked...except at night in the car. It's blue light is very bright so not something he could play with at night in the car; blinding the driver and all. He keeps it next to his bed and takes it everywhere with him. I'm so glad I got it for him! Really the only reason I didn't give it all 5 stars was because it was a bit smaller than I expected. 4Ours a bit bigger and he is pretty rough on them so I was hoping this would ...Cute little thing, was thinking it would be bigger, but it works well enough. I got this for my 4 year old who is a fan of the Doctor and quite enjoys playing with my screwdriver as well as my husbands. Ours a bit bigger and he is pretty rough on them so I was hoping this would distract him and it has worked, he loves having his own Sonic device. He was disappointed that it didn't make any noise, but that was intentional... The flashlight part is very bright and works great for some light reading after he's been put down for bed and his lights turned off. Overall this is a good toy that will keep your little whovian occupied. 4A bright little light.I was a person who didn't have a flashlight around the house but I was also a Whovian so the solution seemed obvious...the sonic screwdriver flashlight. Yes as some have said it is small but the measurements are in the product description for all to see before purchase. As for me, the light is bright enough to use in the normal way as a flashlight but it is also good for reading when you don't want an overhead light on. The light fits well in my hand and it feels like it weighs very little so I am able to sit comfortably hours at a time and read. Doubling as a book light was something I was hoping for and I was happy to find out that it could work that way too. 4Great gift for a friend who loves Dr Who and didn't have it on her listThis is a great item that I saw for my friend who is a great fan of Dr. Who. This was not on my friends wish list because I like getting things not on the wish list because my friend checks what was brought for Christmas and Birthday. I wish you could block purchased gifts from the users prying eyes or block them for a few weeks after birthdays and major gift giving holidays. 5Average prop, bad toy, good price. My 8 year-old son bought this with his own money. Being a huge DW fan, this was the cheapest one that was at least close to the right size, and at $12, he could afford it.He really loved it, for sure. It doesn't make a sound and there's no working parts outside the little switch that activates the blue light, but he made it work.Unfortunately, it started to fall part pretty quickly. The black knob came off first, followed by the mounting area for the screw in the middle becoming ripped. Finally, he dropped it and the housing came completely apart. I managed to put it back together, but the switch to activate the light was messed up and didn't work any more. Really bummed him out. We ended up getting him the $25 dollar one with lights and sound. Too bad we couldn't travel back in time to fix this mistake. If you're an adult who wants to have this as a quick sight gag, go for it. If you're a fan, or are giving this to a kid as a toy, forget it. Get the better quality versions. 2It is OK for the price.I love Doctor Who, and David Tennant is my favorite Doctor. I and my family were going on a Ghostly cruise aboard a local Pirate ship that does tours our local bay. I decided to do a Doctor Who themed outfit. I bought this Sonic Screwdriver, and a fez and bowtie. My only complaint about the flashlight part was that it is not very bright. I would recommend buying the one that sells for around $25, I think the light would be brighter, plus you get the sound effects. But it is a nice little sonic screwdriver for the price. 3Who turned on the light?!?On amazon the light is marketed as a toy when I got the package it clearly said "not a toy" I was a bit dismayed considering this was for my some who is an 8 year old whovian. I kept it thinking it can't be that bad, it's a flashlight. Well perhaps my child is just a bit trigger happy when it comes to turning on a light - but it is bright! And not comfortable on the eyes when flashed with it in your face. I think he has figures out his parents aren't cool on being blinded but is advise if you have other children or small kids it may not be the safest or smarted thing to have around. If all else fails, get in anyway because you know your child is more well behaved than mine and won't blind you or your small critters like babies and pets. 4Great toy!I agree with all the other reviewers; it is definitely too light and needs more weight.Having said that, it doesn't feel cheap. It feels well made.It doesn't have any noise or moving parts (except for the on off switch). It has a flash light on the end which is blue. The light is pretty bright and shouldn't be pointed at someone's face.I have 2 young children (6 and 4) who play with this constantly. It seems to hold up pretty well. I think the lack of moving parts makes it stronger and harder to break. The lack of sound makes this one of mommy's favorite toys for them too ;)I agree with other reviews about the battery. This is the second Doctor Who screwdriver we've had (the first being the Master's Laser Screwdriver). Both of them use those silly button cell batteries. I think in this one in particular a double or triple A batter would have served it much better. 5
