    Nice and small Nice and small. Holds plenty for a single person for a backpacking trip. Added a photo and you can see it holds more salt than pepper. 5Love this item, except for one thing ! GSI 79500 Salt Pepper Shaker -Overall, I really like this product. It is thick, hard plastic and seems well made. The "shaker" caps snap on / off for easy filling.The specs -It measures 2.75 (2-3/4)" long by 1.38 (1-3/8)" max diameter on the screw-opn caps.The compartments are not symmetrical - The Salt compartment is 1.44 deep and holds about 2-3/4 teaspoons of table salt. The Pepper compartment is .92 deep and holds about 1-1/2 teaspoons of fine ground pepper.The shaker holes are .078 diameter on both caps.CONS:The only thing I don't like, as mentioned in other reviews, is the leakage into the caps when closed.An examination of the lids and shaker caps reveals the problem. The cap insert had a .015 tall "ridge" around the inside. This provides the seal when tightened down, but leaves a gap between the shaker top and the inside surface of the cap inside the ridge.DIY FIX:My solution was to find something aprox .015 thick and self-adhesive to fill the area inside the ridge. It also needed to be soft / compressibleto maintain the seal when screwed closed.Gorilla brand duct tape (.016 thick) was the answer. I cut a 7/8" (.875) diameter "disk" from the tape and layed it inside the lid, being careful not to let it overlap onto the ridge.Problem solved ! The ridge still seals the shaker from the elements, and the duct tape "disk" closes off the top of the shaker. 4Durable and Compact Perfect size for short trips. I throw mine in a small pouch to take fishing and use it when making shore lunches. It easily fits unobtrusively in your pocket and holds several meals worth of salt and pepper. I have dropped on rocks and concrete many times, so it is durable. Even when carrying the shaker in my pocket, the lids have never come off.This is a great little accessory for picnics, hiking, and camping trips. A great purchase I would recommend to others and it's not much larger than a normal Bic Lighter. 5Spilled spice problem an easy fix. I love this shaker. It is easy to fill (I am a quadriplegic with limited use of my hands), is sturdy, lightweight, and easy to unscrew to use. Yes, there's space between the top and cover. It was easy to fix with circles, cut to fit inside the lids, from a craft foam sheet (1/16" [1.5mm]) (cheap at the dollar store). Use the inside plastic lid to draw around. I used glue dots to hold them in place, but a dot from a glue gun will work. It won't use all the cap threads to close it, so I just screw down until it is snuge. The 4 star review is because the manufacturer should have thought to put something in the lid to keep the spices in. It is an easy fix and it is still worth buying. 4Built well, works good. This is a very well made salt and pepper shaker. It holds plenty of salt to last at least a couple weeks with regular use.About the only problem I've got, which was to be expected, is that it is difficult to salt and pepper your food as you eat. I occasionally like to eat avocados and apply salt and pepper to them as I eat, the same with tomatoes. With this shaker, I had to unscrew the salt, pour, screw it back, then unscrew the pepper, pour, screw it back. I went through this routine repeatedly for several minutes. Of course, as I said, it was kind of expected, but I wasn't aware of how often I'd be switching from salt to pepper and back. It would be nice to see an optional top that twists open.Other than that little annoyance, it is a great product. I'll probably buy a second to keep in my EDC. This will allow me twice as much salt and pepper, plus when I am using both simultaneously, one can act as the salt and other pepper. The addition of the disks of Gorilla brand duct tape added to the tops turned nearly perfect into absolutely perfect. 5Perfect Size Instead of duct tape to close the gap so that the contents don't spill out into the cap while carrying or inverting, I used the inside plastic coated cardboard that was at the top of a small prescription pill bottle. It was the perfect size - not cutting necessary. 53 *** as sold, 5 *** after modification As many reviewers have noted, there's a fundamental design flaw here that the manufacturer could very easily solve: On both sides, then the lid is fully tightened, there is a gap between the lid and the shaker-top where the product is dispensed. That means that when you open the lid, granules of your product will spill out.Reviewers have noted the use of various materials to resolve this, and in my case I just cut a couple of circles out of thin cardboard, just the right size to stay firmly in the lid, and to close that gap and prevent spillage. It works perfectly. But the fact is that the manufacturer should resolve this, and I cannot give more than three stars for a product with a fundamental, easily-rectified design flaw.After modification, however, it's perfect. Many have noted that it's quite small, and I agree that it's smaller than I'd expected when I ordered it. But in my case, that's a good thing--it fits nicely in a side pocked on my lunch bag. 3
