Customer Reviews

Overall I'm pretty happy. The capper broke 18 bottles in but ...The borrowing bucket needed some work to keep it from leaking. Overall I'm pretty happy. The capper broke 18 bottles in but thats why I keep a press near by. Some parts arrived damaged but didn't hurt the functionality. Also the bottling spigot is super high up and leaves about 6 bottles of beer at the bottom of the bucket without tipping it. Which is a huge pain if your a single brewer. Otherwise I'm pretty content for the price. Also it came with b-brite not c-brite....and the racking wand had a chip out of it.. but I was able to slide the tube over the damaged area. I don't expect perfection for how cheap this was. But I might just stick to the local brew store for the rest of what I need.3Worth the money. Quality products that don't mess around. Great product(s).Everything came as listed and they all have a quality feel to them. No cheap plastic parts, all top-notch.Almost done with my first batch - I ordered an Oktoberfest ingredient kit additionally.Once you buy this kit you will STILL NEED:-ingredients to make the beer itself (ingredient packs are convenient and fairly inexpensive)-a large wooden spoon to stir your wort-at LEAST a 5 gallon pot w/lid-bottles to bottle your beer-bottle caps to cap your beerI created a blog documenting my first batch...this may help other beginners.[...]Happy brewing homies. 5Mostly an okay value, but somewhat misleading discription...Wrong capper(not as pictured or described). B brite cleaner instead of c brite sanitizer and broken hydrometer. The rest of the kit seems ok, not top notch, but okay for the price. If all items had arrived intact and as photo/description detailed would have been a moderately decent value. You get:Carboy(heavy and impressive)Bucket/lid/bottling spigot/plastic airlock(all quite cheap feeling, but ruggedness isn't needed if your careful)About 5.5 feet hose and a plastic racking cane with clip and anti sediment tip( auto-siphon will be good idea as additional purchase)Very likely a broken Hydrometer(those suckers must be fragile because it seemed well wrapped)(also may want to order a second hyrometer and tube, because these seem fragile enough to expect eventual break)A soft plastic capper that seems pretty flimsy but may work for a whileLil 20 page or so booklet of directions(photos and a notes section)Stick on thermometer, spring loaded bottle filling tip on a plastic tube about 18 inches longA bottle brush. Big enough for just about any bottle you would use, but not for the carboy. You may want a carboy brush eventually. And B-Brite, an oxy clean like product which is not really a sanitizer, so make sure you order some star san or equivalent.(kit is missing a tube for hydrometer testing, which you will need unless you have a foot tall transparent liquid tight cylinder on hand)The kit isn't bad, but 2 stars off is what you get for lying about the contents of the product, the hydrometer was a handling issue, and seemed diligently packed, so thats no big. I understand part availability can change over time but so can product descriptions, so get on it and change the description.(Don't expect any real help on broken hydrometer from supplier, but i called Amazon and they credited me the approx value of a replacement)Good luck on your brewing Amazonians!3Awesome!I've always heard these horror stories of people making their first brew and it being horrible. Thankfully that was not the case for us! I'd love to take credit, but by the end of the night we were all pretty sauced and my hopes for a quality product were dwindling. Somehow it turned out great! I don't know who to blame, but this worked out well. Buy a 6 gallon pot and a spoon and you're set!5Excellent Kit, Excellent SellerI'll write a more comprehensive review later, but would like to first point out that after ordering this kit through Amazon from Monster Brew Home Brewing Supplies, I figured that it would take a few days to gather and a few more to ship. I was in no hurry, brewing is a hobby that requires patience. Much to my surprise, this kit shipped mere hours after I placed my order and arrived via Fed Ex two days later. On a Saturday. Incredible! The kit came with everything in the box and seems, looks, and feels to be of quite high quality in materials and construction. I can't wait to start brewing!-----Update: I've brewed several batches of hard cider and beer now and I have to say that this kit is still the core of my brewing paraphernalia. It's a starter kit, for sure, and for beer you'll want to pick up a few more items as your hobby grows (like a giant stock pot to boil your wort). But for a beginner like me this kit was perfect. Other than consumables like sanitizers, bottles, caps, and the actual ingredients themselves, this kit was everything I needed to ferment a few batches of hard cider and you could brew a small beer kit as well employing kitchen pots that you already have.5Really does have everythingThis kit really does have everything you need, well, except a 5 gallon pot an bottles. Everything is good quality except the hydrometer, which is pretty cheap. I've brewed three batches with this so far with no problems. Two comments: If you are going to do a lot of capping, get a stand capper The included capper works fine, but the stand capper is safer and easier to use. And if you are not very strong, clumsy, or just not a very careful person, avoid the carboy. It is large, heavy, and awkward, especially when holding 5 gallons of beer!5While the price is right, the contents are not.The only redeeming quality of this homebrew kit is the glass carboy. The kit contents are not as pictured, the airlock was broken on arrival and subsequently delayed our brew day by an entire week (not much time to brew during the work week unfortunately). There is no thermometer included with this (so you need to purchase one to monitor your boil temp), and the hydrometer did not function correctly when we placed it in pure water (reading was 1.010....). In addition, there is no funnel, so good luck pouring the contents of your boil directly into the carboy without it (we made one out of some water bottles left around the house). The cleaning tablets included are for just that, cleaning, not sanitizing. In order to really sanitize your equipment, you need to purchase additional sanitization solutions (e.g. Star San) While the low price of this item is definitely attractive in comparison to some of the other brew kits on Amazon, the quality of the materials I received reflected that (low quality too). The line that this "includes all equipment & tools necessary to produce your first 5 gallon batch" is simply not true. Stay away from this kit unless you enjoy placing additional amazon orders for broken equipment and missing items that actually are required for completing your first 5 gallon batch.2Best price for (almost) everything needed. I decided to get into homebrewing after expecting to pay hundreds for equipment. The local homebrew store had decent kits, but this was almost half the price of those! I ended up getting a kit for myself and a kit for the father-in-law.The kit came in a nice box that was perfect for wrapping as a gift. It had everything listed and everything seems high quality, it even came with a small homebrew beginners book that should be enough to get you to make the first batch, however I would eventually recommend buying 'The Complete Joy of Homebrewing' as most homebrewers consider it the bible of brewing. I have just bottled my first batch of beer and everything worked great, now I have to stare at it for 2-3 more weeks as it conditions. To the reviewer who said the carboy is only 5 gallons, I have 5 gallon plastic carboys for my fishtank and this is noticably larger, however I have not been able to accurately measure it.People wishing to get into this hobby should know a few things:1) You will need to buy a stockpot to boil the wort(unfermented beer). Do not get aluminum as it can impart bad flavors as it reacts to the acidic wort. Do not skimp on this, expect to pay at least $50 for a decent one off amazon. The thicker gage steel, the better.2) You may need some miscellaneous items like bottlecaps(not included), a grain bag, stirring spoon, ammonia to remove old bottle labels, etc.3) The kit comes with some bags of special sanitizer, however most people use bleach or other readily available chemicals. Just don't mix chemicals and rinse well.4) Start saving bottles early! The bottles cannot be screw top and should be brown, not green or clear(light ruins beer). Sam Adams bottles worked best for me, bought a couple 12 packs of their holiday collection. I've heard things about the wing capper breaking thin glass beer bottles, but had no problems. Also, I have been told that old champagne bottles can be capped as well.5) If you dont like doing dishes, this is not a hobby for you. Scrubbing 50 bottles, the carboy, the bucket, hoses and siphons takes time and patience.6) If you like to save $$$ and experiment, this IS the hobby for you. Most recipes work out to under .50 for a bottle of beer. 5Happy with the order so farPackage arrived with a lot of padding nothing was damaged. Everything seems to match what you can see in the picture.Since there isnt a clear list of everything included here is one:6 gallon glass carboy ( not a 5, I measured)>5 gallon bucket with spigot at bottom and cover grommeted hole for airlock brand ROPAK CAN-AM LTDairlock bubblerairlock stopperbottle cleaning brushthermometer sticker for side of the carboyB-brite cleansernormal siphon (not an auto-syphon)3 ft tube for siphon & bucket spigot2 hose clipsbottler filler end for siphon type that shuts off when you aren't touching the bottom of the bottlesmall brewing guidebottler capper unsure brand but made in italyhydrometer - alla brand4This definitely "left a bad taste"Broken, missing, and substituted parts leaves a very unhappy buyer. It's hard to determine how many items might be missing because there is no packing slip or list of materials in the box nor is there one with the Amazon product listing. But it is obvious that at least the fermenting bucket lid is missing. Also, another capper was substituted for the highly rated Red Barron capper. In addition essential some small parts were broken. All-and-all this purchase was a very unpleasant experience.I was hoping to start my new hobby (brewing beer) before going into heart surgery and leisurely watching the bubbles flow during the primary fermentation as I recover. I had read reviews about poor packing which resulted in a broken carboy and was pleased when mine arrived undamaged. However, there is no way to receive replacements for the missing and broken parts, so I have to ship the entire package back for a replacement or refund. This means that I would be taking another 'crap shoot' chancing damaged goods on the replacement order. Furthermore, Amazon's return policy requires someone to be available for UPS pick-up, and my wife is handicapped (in a wheelchair) and I'm currently working which makes this impossible. So, return necessitates a trip to the UPS shop lugging in this awkward package. Another unpleasant experience.Of course it get even better because I've order a lot of additional items necessary to get off to a good start and now have to consider return each one item-by-item and looking for another, less 'fragile' hobby. Perhaps a trip to a local brew shop would solve the problem, but I use Amazon not only to save money (often but not always a good bargain) but because of difficulty in time and trouble buying items locally. So it's cheers, but not from my own home brew.2Decent enoughFor the price, this is an excellent kit for someone wanting to step up their brewing game. The carboy came in one piece, the fermenter holds a seal perfectly, all the other parts were as described. The one thing I didn't like about this kit was the bottle capper. It began to wear out after about 100 bottles. It can get the job done but wasn't the best piece of equipment.5Great KitJust like most of you I started on a Mr Beer kit. It was fun the first 3-4 batches but then you realized it was not the full true brewing experience. I spent hours upon hours with endless searches on the best deals on quality products but look no more. This kit arrived with everything i needed and nothing was broken. I went to my local homebrew shop to get a true brew kit since it was cheaper. But this kit for only $96 and amazon prime is a steal in my opinion. Thats because most websites cost about $10-$20 for shipping on top of the main price. This was perfect for me and I plan on buying more products from this seller in the near future. Happy Brewing!5
