Buyer beware. These potholders are good looking but thin. I almost dropped my casserole dish with these taking it out of a 325 degree oven. I sew and opened it up to add some layers but discovered the Terry cloth is woven into a thin layer of cotton. See photos.
I have found good old fashioned, NON STIFF, pot holders. My old pot holders are worn, stained, and bedraggled. Have been looking for a pot holder that one can actually wrap around the handle of a pot for years now. Seems all pot holders in the stores out there are made of some new material that is so stiff, one cannot pick up a hot plate or pot with them. I've been sufficing with folded over dishtowels. The new fangled STIFF pot holders, are best used for hot pads to set things on the table. They fail miserably for grasping handles. These pot holders are a teeny bit thin, but thick enough to grab a hot plate or pot momentarily with no folding, and foldable enough that one can double them over and still have plenty to grab the hot handle with if you need to hold the hot thing for longer than momentarily. Also does anyone else take note that pot holders make of synthetic materials MELT when exposed to high heat? The cotton never does that. Thanks Amazon for a really functional pot holder. I'll be ordering more of them.
5Loved so much these are second purchase in a month
Generously sized, thick, plush, soft versatile color. I hate to use these and get them dirty. I like them so much that this is the second set I've bought in the past month. Now I have four. They go great in my kitchen with the granite, cabinetry, pots and pans - so yes, they are a fashion statement. They also work well to protect my table and counters from hot pots and are so soft that they don't scratch anything. They come with loops to go on hooks but I don't have any hooks in my kitchen.
5but I've always found them pretty much as dense as you could want
I see a lot of complaints in the reviews about these being thin, but I've always found them pretty much as dense as you could want. Not sure if they are coming from different sources or people aren't washing them (which tightens them up considerably), regardless, these wash and work great for me. Even taking a screaming hot cast iron skillet or the like out of the oven is no issue with them. They've also held up well to lots of use, lots of spills, and regular washing in hot water.
5Would buy more
Pot holders should not seem like rocket science. However, it was difficult to find exactly what we wanted in a pot holder which was pretty basic. Rich plain colors for our kitchen style, thick, washable and not too bulky as those help no one ever. These were perfect. The green color is a nice deep sage. We have used these for a while now and they definitely protect against burning yourself, fit in a shallow drawer nicely and wash very well in the laundry. I'd buy again for sure.
5They are a nice color and good size but I have never ever ...
There is something very wrong with these pot holders. I bought 6 of them. I am single and don't do tons of cooking but I do cook in my oven fairly often. I have already thrown away 2 of these and am about to throw away 2 more. They get a brown spot in the center and when I was them it forms a whole and the entire middle just disappears. They are a nice color and good size but I have never ever had any pot holders do this to me like these do. They are supposed to be 100% cotton. I really don't think this should be happening. I only take hot things out of the over with them and sometimes I sit hot dishes on them for a few min. I don't know what is wrong with them.
1Good Pot Holders
When our pot holders were becoming a little worn, we purchased these new red ones on a whim. It is difficult to judge the weight and heat resistance from a printed description, but these pot holders looked promising. We use them on a daily basis, have washed them and have been very happy with this purchase.
5Came apart on first washing
I bought the Ritz based on Cook's Illustrated's review and rating. I buy many kitchen products from Amazon that way. On first washing the seams on one of the pads came apart (see photo); feeble stitching. Some of CI's claims were correct - comfortable, worn-in feel - vastly superior to the thick cotton mits I discarded when the Ritz pair arrived. But if the Ritz deteriorates on very first washing, what do I care about the price or CI rating? This was a disappointing purchase. CI's calling this product "reliable" and declaring it the winner in this category got it wrong.
1Ritz Royale Collection 2-Piece Pot Holder Set
Terry cloth pot holders are just about impossible to find, except on Amazon. I like them because they are not heavy or stiff and conform easily to whatever pot or pan you are lifting. This is especially important if you have arthritic hands. I just toss the pot holders in the wash when they get dirty. I was amazed at Amazon's color selection -- usually, when I can find terry cloth pot holders in a bricks-and-mortar store, I take whatever color I can find. I bought a dozen in a color of my choice -- amazing! They are a real find.
5Perfect Pot Holders in a varity of colors.
I purchased these to replace my worn out ones from about 20 yrs ago and I love them. I was shopping the big box stores and just couldn't find these anymore or any of the colors offered. I use them all the time and I can't understand why anyone thinks they're thin. I'm almost 60 yrs old and I think they are a quality product. If they were thicker you might not be able to easily pick up the baking pans from the oven. I also purchased the square mitt and love it too. They wash easily and hold up to daily use for years. I love mine so much I purchased them for each of my daughters too.
