but Amazon was nice enough to honor a replacement just this one timeI bought this stapler in June 2016. It is now the beginning of September and the stapler is broken. It keeps jamming and can't be fixed. I used the swingline staples in it, so that couldn't have been the problem. It was over the 30 day return time to return it, but Amazon was nice enough to honor a replacement just this one time. My new stapler will arrive today. I asked the Rep what happens if it breaks again after 30 days. His reply was they probably won't be able to give me my full money back, only partial. I can see if I had been using the stapler for over a year, but I guess I will just hope this was a fluke thing with the other stapler, or I will be out of $24 for a stapler. Buyer Beware!! 1Perfect for large packets of paper!!I'm now in the process of ordering my 4th one of these because this guy is so popular at my office.Reduced effort is no lie, I handle serious packets of paper at work and it punches through the paper so easily. Never had them jam on me.It does require its own special staple, and it comes with a tiny pack of about 2-4 rows of them. But if you've got 4 of these staplers around like I do, it's not too much of a problem stocking up on staples. The only other con I can think of is if you're dead set on picking up your staplers to use, this isn't like that.10/10 highly highly recommend. 5Piece of JunkAs a teacher, I needed a stapler that could reliably staple 40+ pieces of paper...this is NOT it! It started jamming a few weeks after I purchased it. Now, after several months of very limited usage, it doesn't work at all. The staples do not go through the paper on both sides and it doesn't bend the staples closed on the back side of the paper. I am going to replace it, I'm just not sure with which brand yet. .review-image-thumbnail { background-position: center center; background-repeat: no-repeat; overflow: hidden; background-size: cover; height: 160px; width: 235px; } .review-media-gallery-content { height:100%; width:100%; background-color:black; } .reviews-mobile-media-gallery .a-carousel-viewport { margin-left:15px; } .cr-thumbnail-image { float: left; } 1Looks are deceiving, this stapler sucks!I was so excited to get this stapler, but it failed me miserably. It DOES get stuck, it jams way too much. Staples don't stay in place and break off way too easily causing the stapler to jam. There wasn't one time I had to use it twice in a row and I didn't have to open it to fix the staples. Swingline is a great company but they failed in making this model. Take my advice, get the PaperPro StackMaster 100 for heavy duty 100 sheet power ($60) and get the PaperPro Prodigy for regular use 25 sheet power ($13). They cost more but you get what you pay for and these staplers are much more worth it, I get compliments all the time and no hassle stapling. OfficeMax in my state which is Michigan does price matching so find a store in your area that price matches and match Amazon price because when I shopped around, Amazon was the least expensive. 1Great for stapling thicker stacks of paperThis thing has been an absolute lifesaver. No more leaning on regular staplers, breaking them, banging my head off of shelves, or jamming. Worth every penny. Kudos to Swingline for a great product. As a PhD student, I often have to print and staple long academic papers. I've stapled up to 40 pages together without issue. From my estimation, it would easily do the 20-30 more it advertises. The mechanism makes the stapling process very easy. I've had zero jams so far, even trying quick imprecise motions to see if I could coax a jam out of it. I would actually venture that using this stapler on a large stack of papers is easier than using a regular stapler on a smaller stack due to the way the mechanism assists. The quality seems top notch. Though it takes up more room than a standard stapler, it sits nicely on my desk. The stapled product is great, as the long, high-capacity staples are folded over nicely. They don't catch on other papers or fabric.A sleeve holding 500 of the Optima high capacity jam-free staples were included. This is probably more than I'll ever need, but since the item description wasn't clear, I went ahead and ordered a box of extra staples that shipped free with Prime as an add-on to the stapler. I think it was $4 for them, and I got 5,000. I now have a lifetime supply of staples, and they came in a nice aluminum box as well.If you need to staple large stacks of paper, get this thing. At the price, it's a steal. Much more economical than the electric behemoths that take up half a desk and make awful amounts of noise. 5Love, love, love my new stapler!I was struggling with an old Swingline (at least 50 years old) when I could not get it to staple more than 5 sheets of paper at once so I made the monumental decision to buy a new one.........I feel like I have stepped out of stapler stone-age, you know kind of like when people in these EMP novels suddenly step into a post electric era. This thing is so easy to use, I can staple quarter inch thick stack of paper with no problem, not even a twinge to my arthritic hands, just one smooth press and it's done. 5Replaced due to a faultThe stapler drawer keeps coming out and will not stay in. I can't use it at all. I managed to staple a few things before it broke.EDIT: I got in touch with Swingline and got a response asking for the serial number. But after 6 weeks I have not heard anything, so I'm leaving this at one star and buying a different brand.EDIT: They must have lost my email and I should have followed up sooner. I now have a replacement stapler from and it's working fine. I must have had a dud but the new one is working perfectly. 4Great Stapler!Works very well. It doesn't make the staples rounded up - just flat, but I've felt numerous ones, and it doesn't scratch you at all. I think it does bend them up slightly into the paper, but they probably make the edges of the staples rounded (not sharp), so it helps not to get scratched. This is perhaps one of the reason that they want you to use Optima brand of staples - both has chisel point to staple in well, and probably the 'soft' edges as well. But again, it does a solid job of stapling - the staple-ends are not loose at all, but set tightly against the paper - and all with an easy push down of the handle.UPDATE: I wonder about the many people who are talking about jamming; I haven't had one jam. Perhaps they're not using the correct staples. There are different thicknesses; a staple for more sheets needs to be thicker (besides longer). They recommended their brand of staples (Optima). Perhaps that's the issue. Also, I have found that sometimes, one leg of the staple is not totally against the paper, and since this stapler doesn't make the edges rounded - just bent up slightly towards the paper, you could perhaps get scratched. But most are against the paper well. (Flat is supposed to be an advantage, as it takes somewhat less space). THIS IS PERHAPS THE EASIEST HIGH CAPACITY STAPLER TO USE! Since the distance the handle has to travel from up to down is a few times that of others, it 'falls' giving more leverage; it somehow accomplishments better like that. It's very easy to staple; much easier than another brand I tried, or even another Swingline model.THANK YOU SWINGLINE, AND THANK YOU AMAZON - IT'S GREAT TO KNOW THAT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES TO HELP YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED!!!There are so many different kinds of tools and materials, and the fact that there are people working hard to see that these things happen, is great! Much appreciation!!! 5Unbelievably poor design. Not one satisfactory use!I shop a lot, and don't typically take the time to write reviews for products. HOWEVER, if I can save someone the expense and frustration of owning this useless paperweight, then the time is well-spent. I was not able to use this stapler even one time. On the initial attempt, the first staple was mangled, became stuck, and nearly impossible to remove. I remain in such disbelief at the inferior quality of this Swingline Optima 70 Desk Stapler, that I went online to search for more reviews (something I know should have done prior to purchase, but I erroneously trusted the brand). It seems that I am far from alone in my disappointment and dissatisfaction. Please do not confuse this unit with the other lower-capacity sheet Optima reviews. This 70 model is WORTHLESS! It will serve you best to try another stapler for high-capacity jobs. I waited too long to use it, and fell out of the return window, hopefully you'll think before buying in the first place. 1Words cannot describe how much I love this stapler!I work in an office and I have to staple A LOT of paperwork. I have very thick packets that I have to staple and have tried so many staplers trying to find the right one that can handle 60 or 70 sheets without being too gigantic to fit on my desk. I have tried a few electric staplers. I was really excited about one but it kept jamming and was impossible to unjam because of the fact that it was electric. The manufacturer was nice to continually send new ones when this happened but eventually they stopped after four replacements and I gave up on the idea of an electric stapler. So I had to begin the search for yet another stapler and decided on a manual one this time. This stapler is THE STAPLER to beat ALL STAPLERS. Words cannot describe how much I love this stapler! It really does staple 60 sheets with ease (I counted). I have used it for about a month now and it has not jammed once yet. It looks nice on my desk and is extremely easy to use. When you use it there is a nice "springy" feeling to it as you push down on the top and release. Compared to the old cheap models that most people have which you have to press down hard on and can hurt your wrist after awhile, this is a really nice change. To refill the staples there is a button the end. You press it and the part to load staples immediately springs out, making it very easy to load the staples and then it pushes back in and clicks into place very easily. This might seem like too much detail and maybe I am a bit of a nerd, but I do spend most of my week in an office and try to find joy in the small things. This stapler brings me much joy while at work! The only negative thing I can say is that if you are stapling a smaller amount of paperwork (less than 3 pages), the staple is kind of loose and you have to press down on it a bit to get it to close a little better. Other than that I think this stapler is the one to outshine all other staplers! 5
