Customer Reviews

Not commercial grade, plastic handle, not worth even the deeply discounted priceI purchased this trimmer based on it's description as "commercial grade," with a "solid wood" base. In the answered questions, three people claimed that it had a metal handle. None of this is true. If it was true at one time, it is true no longer. These answered questions, in effect, constitute part of the product description, and if they are not accurate, or the product has changed in the meantime, Amazon should not continue to post the erroneous information. This is an inexpensively made paper cutter that is certainly not worth the suggested retail price claimed. It has a plastic handle, the base is medium density fiber board, not "solid wood," and it plainly won't stand up to commercial usage. If I had seen this item on the floor of a retail store, I wouldn't have purchased it, even at the deeply discounted price, though some people might pay that much for it. As it is, I feel misled on a number of levels: 1) the suggest retail price is unrealistic, so that the discount is not what one would suppose, 2) the quality of the cutter is not commercial grade, and 3) the many exuberant reviews seem to be a result of group think more that truly reflective of the value of the product.2At first I loved this - sharpAt first I loved this - sharp, cut like butter, could easily handle my work load as an artist. It's cut over 1,000 of my art prints... however, over time I noticed that it wasn't straight. I cut business cards for myself that require straight lines... It's off by 1-2 cm with every cut. Almost like the top metal bar that lines up the print is off by a hair. I don't know who to reach out to about this, because I need the cutter replaced with a straight one. If customer service reads this, will you please reach out to me? Thank you!3Heaven, I'm in Heaven! No more eyeballing a straight line with a pair of scissors! Precision has cutting has arrived to Studio 928! It's amazing, everything you could ever want in a guillotine cutting board. Just like those amazing ones in art class and in school. Cuts like butter. Really precise, clean edges. I just want to cut everything now!I hesitated to spend $90, but the reviews on the $35 and $45 dollar models sold me on this one. It's the right weight, has a lock for holding down the blade and the grid on the surface is just right for lining things up. I used it for both cardstock and regular paper. It's the real deal. Look no more.5Great cutter as long as you don't try to cut too many sheets at onceGood quality product. It came on time and in mint condition. Intelligently designed and simple in the best way. The only drawback is the cutting capacity. I've cut card stock on it and anymore than 5 or 6 sheets and the cut quality is destroyed. When over 5 or 6 sheets you get hairy edges, curved cuts and sometimes it doesn't even cut, just bends the paper. I understand that it is not designed for that type of cutting but the descriptions on most of the table top cutters are very quiet about capacity in an almost dishonest way. It seems that in the desktop guillotine market there is no middle or at least none that I could find. There's no 40 page capacity cutter. It's almost like it's either 2 or 200. If you want to cut 25 pages at once (i.e. making a quality magazine mock like I often do) you have go a little overboard and get something industrial that has a 200 page capacity.4I like it!I use mine all the time. It cuts sharp and accurately. The safety lock is NOT very tight, I have seen others with stronger safety locks if that is an issue for you. I really like the measuring system and grid on the board, it helps with accurate cutting. I have not yet needed to change the blade on it despite using it every week for the last year.4and it's actually fun to use This paper cutter has saved me much time - I used to use a rotary cutter because I thought it was more accurate. Then my husband talked me into getting one of these, and it's actually fun to use! I use it for trimming art prints so I can't speak to how many pages it may or may not cut, but what it important to me is accuracy and the ability to easily cut right angles. Maybe in time it will get wobbly but for now it's perfect. well almost - one thing I would like to see are more gridlines so that I can be certain I'm lining the paper up properly. 5Amazing cutter, dangerously packaged.I love this cutter. If you buy it, though, be careful as the blade is positioned lower than the actual base and is not covered. I nearly cut my thumb when trying to pull the cutter out of the box because I didn't know this.If you buy it, I'd suggest making a fabric slip or something to go over the blade because it's a risk/liability.As far as the performance of the device, absolutely no complaints. It's worth the extra to buy the larger, wooden base guillotine cutter over the cheaper ones. It cuts incredibly cleanly, sharply, and accuracy is easy to achieve.5Quality you would expect from X-Acto I have been using X-ACTO products for 40 years and they never let me down. I still have knife kits I purchased 40 years ago. This is a great cutter. This has a very sharp blade and the measurements are accurate. I have been using it to cut Flexible Magnet Data Card Holder and it works perfect. Not the cheapest but definitely worth it. I have been using X-ACTO products for 40 years and they never let me down. I still have knife kits I purchased 40 years ago. 5Very disappointed in this paper trimmerNot as described on Amazon s website. Amazon s website product information states: Commercial-grade paper trimmer cuts up to 20 sheets at once . It will not. It will only cut 7 (copier paper quality pieces of paper at most without shredding the edges. Very disappointed in this paper trimmer. This is the second paper trimmer that I ordered. This replacement will only cut 7 pieces of paper at a time too. Does anyone know of a paper trimmer that will actually cut 15 pieces of paper?1Excellent paper cutterThis is an excellent paper cutter. The first one I bought on Amazon had a strong odor of either the oil used to lubricate the cutting hinge, or something used to treat the rubber feet. I returned it and got another one and the smell is much less intense. This paper cutter works very well, cuts clean, square cuts in all sorts of material. I've had numerous high end paper cutters and this one is the best for sure.5Fabulous!I first tried the Swingline ClassicCut Ingento CL520m-1152 and the Premier original Green Board, Model PREW18, and returned them immediately, writing reviews at amazon with the reason for my returns. Then I got this one, thank goodness! It is solid, it is attractive, and it cuts very accurately. I hastily cut the four sides of a new piece of paper, and the the square was perfectly true. The safety lock is on the side, not in the way, and can easily be put on with the same hand you are lowering the blade with. A previous X-Acto had very confusing lines, both inches and centimeters, on the grid, but this one is perfectly clear. The centimeter markings are at the top and bottom, with the inches in the middle. You do have to hold the blade toward the left if you are cutting more than a couple of sheets, but that is a common issue with paper cutters. All in all, I love it, and am so glad I persevered until I found a good one!!!5Wouldn't Cut a Thing!I was so excited to get this paper cutter for our office. I do a lot of laminating and trimming of 11 x 18 pages. Well... I put my first page in, brought the arm down, and all it did was bend the page. Tried again and it made a rough, shabby 2 inch cut and bent the rest of the page. I tried everything to get this trimmer to trim and it wouldn't, so I returned it. Then I bought a Swingline and the same thing happened. I don't get it. I've been using paper trimmers since 1983 and never had this happen. I'm disgusted in the quality of products these days. Slapped together with no testing or quality control. Boo, hiss!1
